Beyond a scale and polish

Let our hygiene team get those teeth back to pearly white!

At a Glance

  • For a patient who does not have gum disease a simple oneoff scale and polish 'hygiene assessment' can be enough to freshen everything up at £65

  • For heavier deposits or staining you may require more than one £65 appointment (hygiene team will advise)

  • For patients with gum disease, the hygiene team will usually need to create a bespoke plan, but you are likely to need a minimum of three hygiene assessment appointments per year (£65) and at least once per year, a more advanced periodontal assessment at £100 per appointment to take detailed records and provide deeper cleaning as appropriate.

How often should I see a hygienist?

Our dental team can advise you best once they have seen you. Some people are more at risk of gum disease, and others may have a diet that stains their teeth faster than the next person; and for these people seeing the hygienist every 3 months is probably best.

It may be that you just fancy a clean as you have a special occasion coming up, or you just love that fresh-breath feeling!

We have options to suit everyone:

Traditional scale & polish

  • Our hygiene team uses their ultrasonic cleaners and finely shaped hand instruments to remove any hard debris from your teeth.
  • They will finish with a gentle polish to remove the majority of staining you may have.
  • These scales start at 20 minutes, which is enough time for most people. However, more time can be added if the hygiene team believe they need to provide more in-depth measurements or cleaning at an additional fee.

Our lovely ladies will also run you through the best way to keep your teeth tip-top and clean.

Airflow stain removal

For those of you with stains in hard-to-reach places, such as the gaps in-between two teeth, or around braces, or anyone who just wants a super-sparkly feel, this is the extra for you!  It is like a pressure-wash for your teeth, with a lovely vanilla flavour! Airflow is also good for freshening up the pocketing involved in gum disease.

Periodontal treatment with the hygienist

  • For patients who are suffering from gum disease (also known as periodontal disease), our team may recommend you book in for periodontal treatment.
  • In advanced cases or cases where most of the mouth is affected it can take several of these visits to provide the care and gather the records we need.
  • This will normally involve a thorough examination where measurements of the problems with your gums will be recorded.
  • The teeth will then be cleaned (with anaesthetic if needed).

The team will make sure they advise you of the best methods to keep things healthy!
